Rose A. Coonen graduated from Cedar Springs Public High School in 1994 and attended GVSU for the next four years, receiving a Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies in 1998. As an undergraduate, Rose spent a summer studying abroad in
Guadalajara, Mexico.
From 1999 to 2003, Rose attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing on an honors scholarship, graduating magna cum laude. While attending law school, she worked as a senior associate editor for the Thomas M. Cooley Law Review. She authored "United States v. Gatewood: Does the Three Strikes Statute Violate Due Process and Undermine the Presumption of Innocence?", a casenote that was published in the American Journal of Criminal Law at the University of Texas.
Rose was admitted to practice in all Michigan state courts and in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan in 2003. She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the National Association of Consumer Bankruptsy Attorneys, and the National Association of Consumer Advocates. Throughout her time in law school Rose worked as a paralegal for Edmond R. Wolven, and in 2005, Rose became a partner in Wolven and Coonen, PLLC.
Rose now resides in West Michigan with her husband Nathan, and her wonderful children, Quentin, Naomi, and Ezra.
